Thank You For The Music – Abba – arrangert for janitsjar (CB) av Jerker Johansson

Thank You for the Music
är skriven av Benny Andersson och Björn Ulvaeus och finns med på Abbas skiva The Album från 1977. Innan dess hade gruppen framfört låten under sin turné genom Europa och Australien våren 1977, som en del i minimusikalen The Girl with the Golden Hair. Sången användes även som ett avslutande extranummer vid konserterna. Denna liveversion skiljer sig till viss del textmässigt från den senare utgivna studioversionen. Den första inspelningen av låten hade en jazzig kabarékänsla inspirerad av Doris Day. Inspelningen färdigställdes men gruppen kom att återvända till melodin för att spela in en ny, slutgiltig version. Thank You for the Music misstas ibland för att vara avslutningsmelodin på hela ABBA:s karriär, men det skulle dröja ännu några år innan framgångssagan var avslutad.

Jerker Johansson (född 1967) har studerat slagverk, komposition och dirigering vid Musikhögskolan i Göteborg 1984-1990. Under åren 1992-2004 var han chefdirigent och konstnärlig ledare för GöteborgsMusiken (numera
Göteborg Wind Orchestra) och 1998-2003 dirigent för Flygvapnets Musikkår.  På skivbolaget Naxos har Jerker spelat in ett flertal skivor med såväl populärmusik som seriös konstmusik och han delar sin tid mellan att komponera, arrangera, dirigera och spela slagverk.

Thank You for the Music, composed by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, is featured on Abba’s CD The Album from 1977. Before this, the group had performed the song during their Europe and Australia tour in the spring of 1977, as part of the musical The Girl with the Golden Hair. The song was played as the final encore at these concerts. There are some differences in the lyrics between this live version and the later studio version. The first recording of this song had a jazzy cabaret feel to it, inspired by Doris Day. The recording was completed, however the group returned to the melody for a new, final version of the song. Thank You for the Music is commonly mistaken for being ABBA’s final melody, but there would be another few years before their success story came to an end.

Jerker Johansson (born 1967) studied percussion, composition and conducting at Göteborg University School of Music. 1992-2004 he was appointed conductor and artistic leader with GöteborgsMusiken (Göteborg Wind Orchestra) and from 1998-2003 also conductor with Royal Swedish Air Force Band. Beside his work as composer and arranger he keeps a busy schedule as percussionist and guest conductor.
