FLAMINGOFLÅTA

«Flamingoflåta» er den første singelen fra Madam Jam sin debutplate «van danse». Det er en polka laget av Steinar Odde, rett og slett laget på en flamingoflåte. Bandet er et møte mellom syv folkemusikere fra Innlandet som utforsker nye og spennende instrumenteringer i den norske tradisjonsmusikken. Debutalbumet «van danse» ble utgitt i juli 2023.
Jeg ble introdusert til denne musikken gjennom en av musikerne i gruppa «Staut», Ørnulf Juvkam Dyve. Han har en sterk bakgrunn i norsk tradisjonsmusikk, og har samarbeidet med denne gruppa. Når jeg først hørte låta, fikk jeg umiddelbart lyst til å transkribere den. Det var noe ved melodiene som gjorde at jeg med en gang hørte hvordan blåsere ville kunne gjenskape og samtidig bringe noe nytt til uttrykket.
Det er viktig at arrangementet spilles med «schwung» og overskudd. Pass på at melodiene har en syngende karakter, og at tonene får lengde, og ikke spilles «knatrete». Syng melodiene for deg selv, og prøv å gjenskape uttrykket på instrumentet.

FLAMINGOFLÅTA

The Norwegian folk-music group «Madam Jam» consists of 7 musicians from the central, mountainous region of Norway. They released their first album, «van danse» in 2023. This polka is on the track-list, and the title translates to «The Flamingo Raft». The reason for the title is that the song was composed by Steinar Odde, while he was lying in the water on one of these!
I was introduced to this group from a well know folk-rock musician in Norway. His background is from folk-music, and he has been the producer of the second album from Madam Jam.
When interpreting this music, it is important to find the dance-like quality of the music. All the tunes must be sung, but with a clear rhythm. Make sure to add length to the notes, make every single note sing.

JOHN PHILIP HANNEVIK

John Philip Hannevik ble født i Tromsø i 1970. Han er utdannet sosionom, og har også hovedfag i musikkvitenskap fra Universitetet i Oslo. Philip arbeider på heltid som dirigent, arrangør og utøver. Han har dirigert brassband, janitsjarkorps og symfoniorkestre på toppnivå i Norge, og han har arrangert og dirigert for noen av Norges fremste artister, slik som Sissel Kyrkjebø, Rein Alexander, Halvdan Sivertsen, Lars Martin Myhre og Bjørn Eidsvåg.
Han har deltatt som arrangør og musiker på en rekke CD-innspillinger, flere av disse har solgt til platina. Philip var finalist ved EBBAs internasjonale dirigentkonkurranse 2003, og han har reist som dirigent i en rekke land i Europa, Afrika, Nord- og Sør-Amerika.

JOHN PHILIP HANNEVIK

John Philip hannevik was born in Tromsø, Norway, in January 1970.He holds a master’s degree in Musicology and has a bachelor’s degree in social work. Philip has been working as a full-time musician throughout much of his adult life, among other things as a musical advisor for the Salvation Army. He has conducted all possible types of ensembles, he has written music for classical artists, brass bands, pop- and contemporary singers/bands, and for TV. He is a prize winner from EBBAs International Conductors Competition.
As a musician he has toured Africa, North- and South America, visited approximately 15 countries in Europe, and has conducted ensembles in many of the finest Concert Halls and studios in Scandinavia. He has worked with several of the top conductors, soloists and bands within the band movement. He has also participated as a musician or arranger on several platinum-awarded CD’s.
